Valentine’s Day Writing Fun

If you’re a writer or artist of any kind a little challenge can help get those creative juices flowing again. Susanna Leonard Hill is hosting a Valentine’s Day writing contest and below is my contribution. Wish me luck 🙂

Happy Valentine’s Day Dad
Good Morning son.
But I can’t celebrate now
– going for a run.

Write valentine’s now Dad?
No. Have to shower.
Yeah PU Dad.
Be clean and dressed in an hour.

Read a book to me Dad?
No. Running late.
Okay, Dad.
Later bud. It is a date.

Heart pancakes please please Dad?
Time for cereal at the most.
Aw come on Dad.
How about jam and heart toast?

Time for catch Dad?
Sorry son. My coffee’s hot.
Now Dad?
Oops! It’s later than I thought.

Quick game Dad?
Nope. Time for coat and shoes.
Hat too Dad?
Sure. You choose.

Can I come too Dad?
When you’re older.
How big Dad?
At least grown to my shoulder.

Oh. Ok. Bye bye Dad.
Plop. Sigh. Gentle tug.
Sorry son.
I forgot a hug.

I love you Dad to the stars.
I love you too, to the moon.
Ooey gooey pink and red
Valentines this afternoon?

I don’t know if I care about that
All the red and pink and hearts.
I don’t care what we do,
I just want to play with you.

Reminds me so much of the Cat’s in the cradle. A good reminder to take time. Other stuff will always be there. Sweet story. Good luck!
